How Paragraphs Are Counted
The counter splits text on double line breaks — the standard way to separate paragraphs in plain text editors. Each distinct block of text separated by a blank line counts as one paragraph.
If your text uses single line breaks (as in some email clients or PDFs), paragraphs may not be detected correctly. In that case, use the Remove Line Breaks tool first to reformat the text.
Why Paragraph Count Matters
Essay Structure
The classic five-paragraph essay has an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraph count is the quickest way to verify your structure meets that requirement.
