Typing Accuracy
What accuracy means in typing tests and why it matters.
What Is Typing Accuracy?
Typing accuracy measures what percentage of keystrokes are correct. A 95% accuracy score means 5 out of every 100 characters typed were errors. Most typing tests calculate accuracy as: correct characters ÷ (correct + incorrect characters) × 100.
How Errors Affect WPM
On TypingTest.now, your net WPM is calculated after accounting for errors. High gross WPM with low accuracy will result in a lower net WPM score than slower, cleaner typing. Accuracy matters as much as speed.
What Is a Good Accuracy Score?
| Accuracy | Assessment |
|---|---|
| 98–100% | Excellent — professional level |
| 95–97% | Good — acceptable for most work |
| 90–94% | Average — room to improve |
| Below 90% | Slow down and focus on accuracy first |
Improving Accuracy
- Slow down until you can maintain 95%+ accuracy at a given speed
- Never confirm wrong muscle memory by typing a word incorrectly twice in a row — stop and retype carefully
- Target your specific weak keys rather than just taking more general tests
