FAQ

Can I use my own text for a typing test?

Yes — select 'Custom' mode and paste any text you want to type. Great for practising domain-specific vocabulary.

Yes. Select Custom mode from the test toolbar and paste any text into the input field. The test will use exactly what you pasted as the target text.

What custom text is useful for

  • Domain-specific vocabulary — medical terms, legal language, programming keywords, or industry jargon that doesn't appear in standard word banks.
  • Specific documents — if you regularly type from a template or recurring document, practice it directly to build muscle memory for that specific content.
  • Speeches or scripts — type the exact words you'll need to transcribe or produce quickly.
  • Foreign language text — if you type in a language other than English, paste text in that language.

Tips for custom mode

Repeat the same custom text across several sessions. Familiarity with the content lets you focus on technique rather than comprehension, and your speed on that material will improve measurably. The second and third pass through the same text is typically 5–10 WPM faster than the first.

Access custom mode directly via the custom text test.
