TypingTest.now ("we", "us", "the service") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
1. Data We Collect
Account Data (registered users only)
- Username and email address — required for account creation and login.
- Password — stored as a bcrypt hash. We never store your plaintext password.
- Display name and bio — optional profile fields you provide.
Test Results
When you complete a typing test while logged in, we store: WPM, accuracy, mode, duration, character error counts, and keystroke timing data (for anti-cheat purposes). Test results for anonymous (not logged in) sessions are not stored.
Technical Data
Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, referrer, timestamps). These are retained for 30 days for security and debugging purposes only.
2. What We Do Not Collect
- We do not use advertising networks or third-party trackers.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing.
- We do not use cookies beyond the session cookie required for login.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and improve the service
- To show you your own typing history and progress charts
- To maintain leaderboard rankings
- To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
- To detect and prevent abuse and cheating
4. Data Retention
Account data and results are retained until you delete your account. You may request deletion at any time via the contact form. Deletion is processed within 7 days.
5. Security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. All connections are served over HTTPS. We do not store payment information (the service is free).
6. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact us via the contact form to exercise these rights.
7. Children
The service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. Changes
We may update this policy. Significant changes will be announced on the site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
